True story, a few weeks back, a woman called for a quote for limo service. She rushed through my greeting with “I just need a price for limo service from Redding to JFK!”
I answered with the standard “I’d be happy to help you with that – now how many passengers will be traveling?”
To which she countered “I said I need limo service and told you from where – now please give me the price!”
In her defense, she did give minimal information of what she thought was required. However, here are some of the problems with how this conversation was going:
- We cannot provide an accurate price quote if we do not know the vehicle required, how many passengers will be traveling or what time of day service is needed.
- To many, the notion of limo service and car service are one in the same. The problem is, when you own a limo company, limo service more commonly refers to the bigger stretched vehicles and car service typically is used to describe the sedans in the fleet.
- We ask questions to make sure there are no surprises at the time of pick-up. Traveling with children? They need to be in booster/infant seats (depending on age), as required by law. Are you packing up and moving to a foreign country with all your belongings? I’m willing to bet, a town car to the airport won’t suffice.
So, had I answered her question with what I heard: “Limo service from Redding to JFK” the price quoted would have been $299.15 (or $598.30, round-trip). However, while she was not too interested in my questions, I was able to ascertain that what she actually needed town car service to the airport, and had an early morning departure. After a few more questions about the upcoming trip, it turns out that she would be returning to LaGuardia instead of JFK. I was able to offer her a first time customer discount and the trip priced out at $374.30, which she booked. $224 in savings – in return for a few easy but directed questions.
