October Weekend in Review

Connecticut Valet ServicesWell, a few months back we declared spring weekends among the BEST time to be in the limousine business in Connecticut….Then we changed it to summer…Now we’re going to change it up and go with October and fall – too many great things going on to let the earlier parts of the year take the cake!  Between bringing countless alumni back to campuses statewide for homecoming celebrations, weddings, concerts and valet jobs – we really are keeping busy 24/7 around here. This past weekend was no exception to the rule! Thankfully, we’ve had some great weather, with seasonably warm temperatures, making for ideal working conditions for our dedicated chauffeurs and valet attendants.

Airport Limo

CT Airport Limo Services

We started the weekend off on Friday with a large valet job in Wilton.  The best part of these projects are being a part of the local community.  It is always fun to see everyone so dressed up and celebrating their favorite local causes.  A bonus for us? It didn’t rain! We also had customers taking in the Demi Lovato concert at Mohegan Sun.

Saturday, after the early clouds burned off, we had one of the most perfect fall days here in Connecticut. Temperatures were not sky high and the day was the PERFECT back-drop for a wedding on the beach in Fairfield.  Further, we also had the cars on the road all day long delivering passengers between their respective homes and JFK airport (it’s VERY rare to have a day here that everyone travels to the same airport – which happened on Saturday).

Sunday was another busy day travel day as our vehicles were again at JFK and also the NYC Cruise Port.

The week is shaping up to be a busy one as the phones are ringing off the hook and reservations keep rolling in.  Please know we are grateful to each and every one of our customers for entrusting us with important travel plans (whether for business or pleasure) and all the special event celebrations! Given the busy time of year, we always encourage early reservations, especially if a specialty vehicle is required (SUV, limousine or passenger van).  Wishing everyone a great week!

CT Activities When the Temps Drop

Yesterday we introduced you to some outdoor and road trip fun in Goshen, CT. Today we’ll give you some suggestions for activities when the temperatures drop and you want to gather friends for a fun day or night together.

Connecticut Concert VenuesAs many know, Connecticut is home to 2 casinos (Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun). Few venues in the Nutmeg State offer the world-class dining and entertainment that can be found here. Whether you’re looking for an overnight adventure, a chance to play the slots on opdag hvordan or to catch a concert, you won’t be disappointed. Having visited both casinos, we can say that there are plenty of options for food and gaming as well as shopping and relaxing. Further, as the winter months drag on, look for Women’s Basketball and other big events (Sun WineFest) to be part of the mix.

Raffle PrizeWe took the liberty of reviewing some of the upcoming concerts and think you’ll find the following to be of interest:

  • Weezer (10/24)
  • Stone Temple Pilots (10/31)
  • Melissa Etheridge (11/2)
  • Harry Connick, Jr. (11/9)

Sporting Event LimosFor those curious about our services to and from the casinos: Door-to-door services are available. We offer both pick-up and drop-off services (for those staying overnight) or hourly service (for those who will be returning the same day/night). Weekend Escape: Goshen, CT

Fall and all its splendor has arrived here in New England! While it’s been a bit warmer than usual the past few days (and no, we’re not complaining about that one bit), it is still definitely October. The trees are rapidly changing colors and we know that soon cold temperatures will be upon us. What we have learned in the 8 years we’ve been at this business is the following: There is something about this time of year that makes people want to hit the open road. Confession: We’ve been doing the same the past few weekends (in and around customer trips of course). With this in mind we now have campers available for hire.

Interestingly enough, we frequently receive calls this time of year from clients and prospective clients looking to book fall foliage tours. We have spent much of the summer roaming the back roads of Connecticut to bring you excursions that will help you see new parts of the state, visit with friends and enjoy some local small businesses. Looking for something to do this weekend? Call us – we have availability with a variety of vehicles available on both Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend we’re going to highlight Goshen, CT – a small town located in central Litchfield County. Why are we suggesting this route? Well, if wine and chocolate are your thing, this is the tour for you!

CT Wine and Chocolate Tour

We had the pleasure of stumbling upon Milkhouse Chocolates at Thorncrest Farm earlier this fall. Available for sale at a quaint shop attached to the barn, these handmade delights will be a treat to any chocolate connoisseur! Our recommendation is that you stock up – they will disappear quicker than you think!

From there, we suggest you continue on to Sunset Meadow Vineyards which is a short 5 minute drive. Here, you will be able to experience a wine tasting while relaxing in the calm of the Litchfield Hills. The knowledge of the staff in the tasting room was impeccable, the view outstanding and the hospitality unparalleled. During our visit, we were treated to live music (and the chocolate paired wonderfully with the wine samples).

If you are looking for a final stop on your adventure, we would be remiss if we didn’t suggest stopping for another sweet treat at the Arethusa Creamery. The ice cream and cheese selection will certainly send you home full.

Connecticut is home to a number of small businesses who appreciate your patronage. We welcome the opportunity to help you explore all the fun and treasures the Nutmeg State has to offer! If a more traditional wine tour is to your liking, please give us a call (203-938-0000) – we would be happy to organize a tour of any of the state’s vineyards.

CT Wine Trail Tours

Connecticut Wine Trail Tours

For those interested in a customized tour, please know that we offer round trip, door-to-door service and can accommodate groups small and large. Please call for a customized rate quote and know that we look forward to serving you!

If you are fortunate enough to call Goshen home or planning a visit: Please know that we offer services to/from Goshen and any of the area airports (Bradley, JFK, Newark, LaGuardia or Westchester County). Rates furnished upon request.

*Disclaimer: The recommendations made here are ours alone.

CT Drivers: I-84 Closure

I-84 Closed

Info on the upcoming I-84 closures

Anyone planning on driving through Connecticut via I-84 may want to rethink their plans this weekend.  The CT DOT will be closing I-84 in both directions, at Exit 30 in Southington, to replace the bridges over Marion Avenue. Preliminary reports indicate that local roads in Southington, will see the brunt of the traffic during the replacement. Major delays are anticipated and alternate proposed routes include I-91, I-691, Route 9 and Route 72. Posted detours will be available to help residents and businesses throughout the weekend.

When Will This Happen?
The weekend activities commence with the closing of the Southington Rest Area at 9 am on Friday, June 27th which will remain closed through 5 am Monday, June 30. At 5 pm, the on and off ramps will be closed at Exit 30, with various lanes slated to be opened/closed as the weekend progresses. Expect normal traffic to resume around 5 am on Monday, June 30th.

What Can You Do?
Our recommendation is to avoid the immediate area and local side roads if at all possible. Consider heading outside of your normal haunts for shopping, errands and activities. If you must head out, leave extra time and try to have a few alternate routes. Remember, driving a few minutes out of your way may be the fastest way to reach your destination.

What Else Should You Know?
The dates are subject to change based on construction delays or weather. The rain date is slated for 9 pm Friday, July 11th through 5 am on Monday, July 14, 2014.

Small Business Week in Review

Shop Small

We like to review things around here…What we did – new services we offered clients – what we saw – where we visited – you get the picture. However, as owners and employees of a small business, we get just how important every phone call, reservation and point of interaction is with our business. To that end, we thought we’d show some support for the local businesses we patronize around here – and there are PLENTY!

Disclaimer: Not all are necessarily related to owning and operating a limo company here in Connecticut – however, as residents of a small Fairfield County town – we thought we’d get some names out there so you could visit/shop/support them as well. Have some favorites of your own? Share away! Let’s do our part to support the very businesses that make up our individual communities!

  • The Itty Bitty Bag Company:  This is one of those special places that exudes New England charm.  More likely than not, you haven’t heard of the company – but clearly should make some time to check it out and most importantly, to shop.  Whether purchasing from her stocked goods or designing a custom bag, you will be amazed at the quality.  Every bag is handmade in her studio in Darien – it’s nice to be able to buy goods truly made in America!
  • Caraluzzi’s: Our favorite local grocery story – hands down. We typically frequent the Georgetown market – but have been known to swing by Bethel as well.
  • DeLuca Hardware: The LongFence.com package consists of a variety of services, allowing us to carry out part of the package using US Fence for you. From placement to quality control. So great to have such a wonderful hardware store less than 10 minutes from the house.  Their goods have helped us to complete many a project around the house!
  • Montilio’s Bakery:  We were in MA to celebrate a very special retirement last week.  The cake we picked up from Montilio’s was amazing and a hit at the party!  If you are in Braintree or Quincy, you’ll need to swing by and try the cookies and cakes yourself.
  • Morano’s Automotive:  When you have a fleet of car alarm systems, they inevitably need to be serviced.  We can always count on the team at Morano’s in Milford to quickly and efficiently diagnose and service our cars.  Everyone needs a good mechanic and this is the place to get your car serviced. In addition, check out Advantage Fleet that offers wreck repairs, roofs and floors, door repair/replacement, full PM services, lighting, DOT inspections, and steel and/or aluminum welding.
  • Portofino’s Restaurant:  We treated the family to dinner Saturday night at one of our favorite restaurants in nearby Wilton.
  • Splash Car Wash:  One of our favorite haunts to glam up the fleet!
  • Uncle Leo’s Donuts: While most would say cops & donuts go hand in hand, they likely haven’t encountered chauffeurs and their need for coffee coupled with sugary snacks. A relative newcomer to Redding, this is quickly making it high atop our favorite places to grab a quick breakfast treat here in town.

Chicago is literally full of auto repair and collision shops. When looking for the best Chicago body shops keep in mind all automotive collision repair is not equal. Chicago Autohaus is the top rated body shop in Chicago Illinois. Their highly qualified and trained team has won several automotive awards.

We’re going to do our best, on a regular basis, to get the word out about our favorite local spots. Do you own a local business? Why not take a few minutes and take the same approach. The customer you introduce to a favorite local business today may help return the favor some day.

Weekend In Review

Connecticut Valet ServicesWell, a few weeks back we declared spring weekends are among the BEST time to be in the limousine business in Connecticut. Seeing as it’s summer and the fun continues, I’m going to amend the statement to reflect the fact that summer weekends are among the best times in Connecticut to be in the limo industry.  Between sending families off on summer vacations, weddings, graduations, and valet jobs – we are keeping busy 24/7 around here. This weekend being no exception to the rule! Thankfully, we’ve been under some beautiful sunny skies with low humidity temperatures, making for ideal working conditions for the chauffeurs and valet attendants, and the best part is that we get to go camping at night, we already made sure we have everything we need from the Survival Cooking site which has been very helpful.

Saturday we had one of the most perfect summer days here in Connecticut. Temperatures were not sky high and the day was the PERFECT back-drop for evening valet job at a wedding in Wilton. We also had the cars on the road all day long delivering passengers between their respective homes and JFK, LaGuardia and Westchester County airports.

Sunday was another busy day travel day as our vehicles were at Westchester, Newark Liberty, JFK and LaGuardia.

The week is looking like a busy one as the reservations have been rolling in.  Please know we are grateful to each and every one of our passengers for trusting us with their important travel plans and special event celebrations! Given the busy time of year, we encourage you to book early, especially if you will need a specialty vehicle (SUV, limousine or passenger van) as they are in high demand.

Connecticut College & University Transportation Primer

Intrastate PlateWith graduations occurring in towns and cities across the country, we figured now was the time to help parents as they prepare to send their students off to colleges and universities here in Connecticut. Whether you are preparing a freshman or returning a seasoned senior, what follows is some advice that any collegiate parent should have on hand as you ready for the 2014-2015 school year. Planning, packing, working and traveling will likely make up the majority of your student’s summer – now is the time to prepare for the logistics of the year. As we often remind people, having a local limousine service on retainer for vacation travel, emergencies at home or a trusted ride while living away from home should be among the calls you make before dropping your child off at school this fall. If you are looking for an excellent tutor services, look for vce specialist maths tutor melbourne and learn more.

Why Retain a Connecticut Limo Service?

Parent Response: All information from the college/university indicates that shuttle service to the airport/ferry/train station is available for breaks and vacations.

Our Response: More often than not, your student will be ready to head home early following exams, or later than fellow classmates as a result of previously scheduled athletic/school events/work schedules. Additionally, available shuttle service is only offered to a select few local airports (i.e. Bradley (BDL) for domestic flights and JFK for international students). It may be in the best interest for your child to travel from another area airport (think LaGuardia (LGA), Newark Liberty (EWR), Logan Airport (BOS) or Westchester (HPN)). Outside of school vacations, your child may need transportation to visit a local doctor or even to run an errand/attend an interview/etc – all being reasons to enlist the services of a limousine company.

What Should Parents Be Looking for in a CT Limo Service?

1. If your student will require transportation from any of the Connecticut colleges or universities to Bradley or Tweed New Haven airports, Connecticut MetroNorth Stations or even the various ferries (Bridgeport, New London, etc), you need to work with a company that has vehicles with L/Intrastate plates. For all other out-of-state airports or transportation centers, a Z/interstate plates will be sufficient.

2. Make sure the limo company tracks all departing and arriving flights. New England is notorious for it’s bad weather and it is not unusual to hit around the holidays – many a student would have missed a flight home had we not been tracking flights here the night before. Early notification of cancellations can help you get your student rebooked on the first flight out.

3. Work with a company familiar with your child’s campus. The sprawling nature of the various institutes of higher education can be both large and confusing. Familiarity with the campus layout will help your student easily locate their vehicle and start their journey home.

4. Make sure that a live person will be available to answer the phone 24/7. Flights occasionally come in late, get diverted, etc. As a parent, you will want the comfort of being able to track your child’s whereabouts as they head to/from campus.

5. If you have a preferred limousine service at home – ask for their local affiliate. This helps you assure some due diligence has been done to guarantee the quality of service you are selecting.

We Found a Company, Now What?

Make the call, set up an account and put a credit card on file. Give your child the information they need to know who to book with and how to reserve a car, should the need arise.

Sending your child off to college requires an immense amount of planning. No matter which university your child will be attending, be it Yale, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, UConn or any of the other wonderful colleges or universities here in Connecticut, please take the time to find a quality local CT limo service. Nobody plans on an emergency, and pre-planning is the best way to be ready.
