How to Get to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun Without Driving From Connecticut

Short answer: From New Haven County and most of Connecticut there are four ways to reach Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods: drive yourself, take the train to New London and finish by bus, taxi or rideshare, join a charter bus, or book a private chauffeur. Mohegan Sun currently lists no scheduled line-run buses, so for most people "without driving" means either train plus a local connection or a car that picks you up at home. A chauffeur makes the most sense for groups, late shows and anyone who doesn't want a designated driver. Call (203) 938-0000 or see our Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods limo service.

Where the two resorts are

Both casinos are in southeastern Connecticut, on either side of Norwich, a short drive from each other.

  • Mohegan Sun: 1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard, Uncasville, CT 06382, off I-395 Exit 9 (old Exit 79A). The resort describes itself as within about 45 minutes of New Haven and Hartford. From much of New Haven County, plan on about an hour or more depending on traffic.
  • Foxwoods Resort Casino: 350 Trolley Line Boulevard, Mashantucket, CT 06338. Foxwoods says New London's train station is about 20 minutes away.

The four options compared

Option How it works Best for Watch out for
Drive yourself I-95 east, then I-395 (Mohegan Sun) or Route 2 (Foxwoods). Both resorts advertise on-site parking; Foxwoods lists free parking and free valet. Couples who don't mind one person staying sober and driving home late Late-night drive back after a show, and someone in the group can't drink
Train + bus, taxi or rideshare Shore Line East or Amtrak to New London Union Station, then SEAT bus, taxi or rideshare for the last leg Solo travelers and daytime trips on a schedule Several transfers, limited late-night returns, and Mohegan Sun notes no New London shuttle in winter
Charter bus A group hires a full bus; Foxwoods takes non-package charter reservations on a limited basis Large organized groups that can fill a bus Fixed departure times and a full busload to fill
Private chauffeur (Absolute) Pickup at your door, drop-off at the resort entrance, return when you're ready Birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, concerts, couples who want a night off from driving Book ahead for Friday and Saturday nights and big shows

Option 1: Driving yourself

Driving is the cheapest-looking choice until you count the trip home. Concerts and late dinners often end near midnight, which means a long drive back on I-95 for whoever stayed sober. If everyone in your group wants to enjoy the night, someone else should be driving.

Option 2: Train plus a local connection

This works, but it takes planning.

  • To Mohegan Sun: Mohegan Sun's own getting-here page says no carriers are offering line-run bus service right now. From New Haven and points east, take Shore Line East to New London. From Bridgeport or Stamford, take Amtrak to New London or Metro-North to New Haven and change to Shore Line East. From New London, finish by taxi, rideshare or SEAT bus. Mohegan Sun notes there is no shuttle between New London and the resort in winter.
  • To Foxwoods: SEAT Route 108 runs between New London Union Station, Olde Mystick Village and Foxwoods' Great Cedar Hotel, weekdays and weekends. Route 982 connects Norwich and Foxwoods. Once you're there, Foxwoods runs an internal shuttle about every 30 minutes between its hotels, garage and Tanger Outlets.

Check current schedules with Shore Line East, Amtrak and SEAT before you go, especially for the last train or bus home.

Option 3: Charter bus

Charter buses are built for big organized groups such as clubs, company outings and senior groups. Mohegan Sun welcomes charters, and Foxwoods accepts non-package charter bus reservations on a limited basis. For a group of 6 to 14 friends, a full bus is usually more vehicle than you need.

Option 4: A private chauffeur

A chauffeur picks your group up at home, a hotel or a meeting spot, drives straight to the resort, and brings everyone back on your schedule.

  • Couples and small groups: an executive SUV such as a Cadillac Escalade or Chevrolet Suburban (up to 6).
  • Celebrations: our super stretch limousine (up to 8).
  • Bigger groups: a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or Ford Transit van (up to 13 to 14) so everyone rides together.

Hourly or point-to-point?

  • Point-to-point (drop off, then pick up later): good for a long day or an overnight stay. Set a return time when you book, and text your chauffeur when you're ready.
  • Hourly, the chauffeur stays with you: good for a show plus dinner, or for adding stops such as Mystic, a winery, or both resorts in one night. See our hourly chauffeur service.
