How to Plan a Holiday Lights Tour from Connecticut with a Chauffeur (2026)
Short answer: For a holiday lights night with two or more stops, book an hourly (as-directed) chauffeur so the same car carries you between displays and waits while you walk through. For a single walk-through event, a round trip with a set pickup time can be enough. Pick the vehicle around the displays, not just your headcount, because drive-through shows can treat a larger vehicle differently from a car or SUV. And check this season's schedules first: New Haven's Fantasy of Lights at Lighthouse Point Park is not running in 2026. Absolute Transportation in North Haven runs hourly holiday trips across Connecticut and into New York City.
Hourly chauffeur or round trip: which one fits a lights tour?
- Hourly / as-directed. You book a vehicle and chauffeur for a block of time and direct the stops yourself. This is the right fit for a drive-through display, two or three stops, or dinner between displays. Our hourly chauffeur service explains how it works. Minimums depend on the vehicle and date, so confirm them by phone.
- Round trip with a set return. This works when the night is one walk-through venue, such as a zoo lantern festival, and you know roughly when you'll be done. You're dropped at the entrance and picked up at an agreed time. Our Broadway and MSG guide walks through the same hourly-vs-round-trip choice for a show night.
Once the chauffeur would wait on site, or you add a second display, hourly is usually simpler than stitching together one-way rides.
Which Connecticut and NYC displays are on for 2026?
These are the details each organizer had posted when we checked on November 5, 2026. Dates and hours change, so confirm on the official page before you book tickets or a car.
| Display | Where | Type | 2026 details from the organizer |
|---|---|---|---|

| Fantasy of Lights | Lighthouse Point Park, New Haven | Drive-through | Not running in 2026 after storm damage. A small tree lighting is set for the park pavilion on Thursday, Nov 19, at 4 p.m. (Goodwill of Southern New England) |
| Holiday Lights | Bronx Zoo, New York | Walk-through | Select dates Nov 21, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027; tickets reserved in advance; rain or shine (bronxzoo.com) |
| Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree | Midtown Manhattan | Walk up and view | Tree arrives Nov 7; lighting ceremony Wednesday, Dec 2, 7 to 10 p.m.; on view through mid-January (rockefellercenter.com) |
If Lighthouse Point was your tradition, Meriden and East Hartford are the closest swaps on this list.
Which vehicle should you book for a drive-through display?
Group size comes first. Our fleet lists executive sedans for up to 4, black SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade or Chevy Suburban for up to 6, the super stretch limousine for up to 8, and Sprinter vans for up to 13 or 14.
Drive-through shows add a second question: what class of vehicle you're entering. The Magic of Lights FAQ says any vehicle with three rows of seating or fewer, including SUVs and minivans, counts as a standard vehicle. A vehicle with more than three rows falls under the limo, party bus and RV pass, which has a 15-passenger limit. Some venues don't allow tour or school buses at all because of height limits (Magic of Lights FAQ). In practice:
- Up to 6 people: a black SUV stays in the standard-vehicle class.
- 7 or 8 people who want the limo experience: the stretch limousine works, but expect the larger-vehicle pass at drive-through venues.
- 9 to 14 people: a Sprinter van keeps everyone together. Check the venue's vehicle rules before you buy passes.
- More than 14: we can send more than one vehicle.
Drive-through passes like Magic of Lights are sold per vehicle, not per person. When you book, ask how the venue pass will be handled so nobody is surprised at the gate. Riders stay inside the vehicle through the display.
How many hours should you book?
These are planning examples, not minimums. Your quote depends on the vehicle, date, hours and stops.
- About 3 to 4 hours: a local evening from New Haven County, such as Meriden's park display plus dinner, or GLOW Wild in Bridgeport (about 24 miles from our North Haven base).
- About 4 to 5 hours: the East Hartford drive-through (about 33 miles from North Haven) plus a second Connecticut stop or a meal.
- A long evening, often 6 hours or more: New York City. Rockefeller Center is about 84 miles from North Haven, which is roughly two hours each way before holiday traffic. The Bronx Zoo is about 73 miles away.
Don't overload the route. Two displays with time to walk around beat four rushed ones, and a weeknight or early start usually means shorter lines.
Can you do NYC holiday lights from Connecticut without driving?
- Train in, walk around, train home. Metro-North suits a small group with a flexible schedule. Our car service vs train guide compares the two for Manhattan trips.
- Door-to-door chauffeur. This fits better with kids, older relatives, a group, or a late return to Connecticut. Absolute holds an NYC TLC license, so we can run your evening in the city as well as the drive in and out.
For Rockefeller Center, don't plan on the car stopping at the plaza. Agree on a pickup corner a few blocks away before you get out. Lighting night, December 2, draws the biggest crowds.
What should you tell the car service when you book?
- Date, pickup address and a rough start time
- Number of adults and children, and any child car seat needs
- The displays in order, and which ones you've already bought timed tickets for
- Any dinner or cocoa stop you want to add
- Whether you want the car to wait (hourly) or return at a set time
Tolls are included in our quote and a gratuity is applied to bookings, so there's no tip math at the end of the night. For ideas on making the ride itself festive, see our post on the benefits of a limo for holiday light tours.
Holiday lights tour FAQ
Is Fantasy of Lights in New Haven open in 2026? No. Goodwill of Southern New England says the drive-through display is paused for 2026 because of storm damage at Lighthouse Point Park. A small tree lighting is planned at the park pavilion on Thursday, Nov 19, at 4 p.m.
Can a limo go through a drive-through light show? Usually yes, but vehicles with more than three rows of seating can fall into a separate limo or party-bus pass class, and some venues limit bus-height vehicles. Check the venue's vehicle rules first.
Should I book hourly or point-to-point for a lights tour? Book hourly for two or more stops or any drive-through. A round trip with a set return can work for a single walk-through event.
How far ahead should I book a holiday lights tour? As early as you can. Our FAQ notes that holidays fill first.
Do you go to New York City for holiday lights? Yes. We drive Connecticut groups into New York City and hold an NYC TLC license.
